Fanny Packs for Ladies Are Back in Style and Trendy | Pakapalooza

It didn’t seem like too long ago when the phrase “fanny pack” was dreadful. Who wanted to wear this lame accessory that only our grandma’s vouched for?

Well, think again, because women's fanny packs are back in style and better than ever. Like many trends, the fanny pack has come and gone and is not playing games this time around.

The History of Fanny Packs

The modern fanny pack’s first debut was in the 1980s while the original fanny pack dates back thousands of years. From buffalo leather pouches to European medieval belt-bags, fanny packs are by no means a new creation.

We can safely say that fanny packs have been there for human-kind for much longer than sliced bread or electricity. It might as well be up there with the wheel when it comes to inventions that are innovative, crucial, and necessary for survival.

Okay, so we’re being extravagant. But if you’ve ever experienced the glory of having a fanny pack perfectly stationed at your waist at your disposal, you would 100% understand.

Whether you call them banana bags, kidney bags, or the marsupio, fanny packs have plenty of perks. It’s no surprise that they’ve sneaked their way back into fashion. If you don’t have one yet, then we’ll give you more than 1 reason why you should pick one up ASAP.

Why Are Fanny Packs Back in Style?

Fanny packs for women made their resurgence in 2018, with high-end brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Prada releasing their fanny pack designs. Celebs like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Jaden Smith, and even Russel Westbrook have been seen rocking these kangaroo packs.

You’re probably most familiar with the traditional style of wearing these packs around the waist. However, a new way of styling fanny packs has arisen: crossbody. This is where the fanny pack is placed over the head and across the chest.

No matter how you style your fanny pack, there are several reasons why they’ve come back in style. What many have once deemed as an ugly, weird accessory is back to wreak havoc on current fashion trends.

Empty your purses, pockets, and lighten your load - because you’re gonna need to fit everything you need in one of these bad boys.

They’re Convenient

The main reason we love fanny packs is that they’re just so darn convenient. Because of their usual compact size, they force you to keep your carrying load down to a minimum.

You don’t need to bring your entire makeup selection on a trip to the grocery store, do you? Like purses, women's fanny packs come in a variety of sizes, so if you want something that can carry more, you can find one.

Another way fanny packs make life easier is by introducing hands-free storage. You don’t need to carry them by handles, strap them over your shoulder, or carry them on your back.

Fanny packs typically have more than one storage compartment. You’ll usually have one main compartment for things like your wallet or cardholder, chargers, sunglasses, camera, phone, etc. Other zippered pockets can store things like hand sanitizer, napkins, lipsticks, compact mirrors & blushes, and whatever kind of junk you need on hand.

You’d be lying if you said fanny packs didn’t have a certain nostalgic aspect about them. Being a staple from the 80s and 90s, these packs are a serious throwback that we can’t help but love.

Maybe you remember seeing your mom, dad, or grandmother wearing a fanny pack while you were on vacation. Not to mention that going retro is a great way to spice up your fashion wardrobe.

There are so many retro fanny packs featuring abstract designs and bright colors. Of course, you can find plenty of more modern fanny packs that may better suit your style.

They Have a Goofy Charm

Everyone loves ugly Christmas sweaters. The same way those sweaters win our hearts, fanny packs have this goofy charm that makes them irresistible.

It is a little bit awkward to have this bag hanging around your waist (or maybe across your chest if that’s how you roll). The whole idea of a hands-free bag that you can access with a quick look down does take some getting used to if you’re new to fanny packs.

In the end, we realized we’ve been missing out on how great these bags are.

Whichever pack you pick, we can guarantee you won’t regret it when you have everything you need readily available around your waist.
